Queen’s Speech Binned And A Job Follows
December 29 2009

Hard luck for Tom Binns, a comedian and radio DJ.  Well, he used to be a radio DJ.  He was recently given his marching orders by Birmingham-based BRMB after getting Kanye syndrome and interrupting the Queen’s Speech while broadcasting it and calling it ‘boring’.  He was even sent a quasi-death threat by an anonymous writer that said they wished he was sent to Basra and killed by a roadside bomb.imageimage

Jay-Z Has A Stroke On A Vampire Weekend At The Ballet.
December 24 2009

Don’t be alarmed at what the title suggests - Jay-Z is fine and in good health as far as we know.  We’re just excited because in addition to the announcement that Mr. Carter, Julian Casablanca et al will be headlining Isle of Wight Festival 2010, we’ve also learned that Vampire Weekend and none other than the mighty Spandau Ballet have been added to the bill for what promises to be a highlight of the summer if not the year.imageimage

This post will be short and sweet, purely for the fact that I’m actually lost for words hours after watching the cinematic wonder that is Avatar.  OK, so perhaps this won’t be as short as proposed.  Another offering from legendary special effects movie director James Cameron (Terminator, Terminator 2, Titanic, Aliens, True Lies), Avatar doesn’t feature big names with illustrious careers with the exception of Sigourney Weaver.  After viewing this film, which incidentally was shelved for a decade after it ran over the first budget, it’s safe to say it was worth the reported $280,000,000 budget (I had to type that completely numerically so you could put it into clear perspective and note the sheer magnitude of it).  The plot follows the few months spent on the planet Pandora by a paraplegic marine.  He is dispatched on a mission which completely changes his perception of morals and values and leaves him facing the biggest dilemma of his life.  If you see one film in 2010, make sure this is it.  It truly will revolutionise the way we watch films.

We’d just like to say a heartfelt rest in peace to Brittany Murphy.  The Clueless and 8 Mile star died tragically at the tender age of 32 on December 20 of cardiac arrest.

We really like Camilla Treharne’s photography.  Having shot the likes of Alesha Dixon, Ellie Goulding and Kid British and worked closely with various fashion labels and magazines, the East London photographer’s credentials, work and prospects make it hard to believe that she originally wanted to be a journalist.  For more info please check Camilla Treharne’s website

There’s Something You’ve Goat To See.
December 15 2009

I just came back from watching The Men Who Stare At Goats and I have to say it’s probably the most memorable film I’ve seen in 2009.  The cast is about as stellar as they come: Ewan McGregor, George Clooney, Jeff Bridges and Kevin Spacey.  McGregor plays a local newspaper journalist who journeys to Kuwait to cover the U.S. Army’s assault over there after being left by his wife.  He encounters Clooney’s character and it is revealed to him that for years the Army has contained a small faction of soldiers with psychic abilities.  The two men join forces to correct past wrongdoings committed by members of the psychic elite in the past.  Filled with irony and dark humour, this movie isn’t your traditional Christmas film but I suggest you see it for yourselves anyway
